The Indianapolis Foundation (IF) announced Monday they will reinforce their commitment to racial equity in Indy with the implementation of the Equity Imperative 2030 strategic plan.
IF is a community foundation established in 1916 with the goal “to help in making Indianapolis not the biggest city, but rather, the best city in the land.”
Community leaders, foundation partners and elected officials gathered for the announcement of the five-year plan that focuses on building and scaling equitable systems that will lead to an improved Indianapolis.
The four priority areas of the plan are housing, economic, health and environmental equity.
“These four aspects of equity are interconnected, and this new strategic plan ensures that our investments and initiatives will be as well,” said Dr. Lorenzo Esters, president of the Indianapolis Foundation. “… All are essential to a thriving community and the focus of Equity Imperative 2030, our new five-year strategic plan.”
The priority populations are BIPOC and marginalized groups, returning citizens and justice-involved citizens, older children and young adults, youth affected by childhood trauma and women.
The implementation of the plan will include grantmaking, co-investment, impact investing, community leadership, coalition building and policy development. IF will work with residents and community leaders to create collaboration and collective action.
The elevation grant program, a partnership with the City of Indianapolis, is an example of their previous work to invest in neighborhoods and address the root causes of violent crime.
“This grant program, now in its third year, has allowed us collectively to give a total of $45 million,” Mayor Joe Hogsett said.
IF recently announced the Center for Racial Equity and Economic Opportunity (CREEO). CREEO will develop racial equity solutions and economic opportunities for underserved communities.
