The Indianapolis Recorder is hiring a staff writer who will help advance the newspaper’s mission of preparing a conscious community today and beyond.
At 128 years old, the Recorder is the nation’s fourth-oldest African American newspaper. The Recorder is under the umbrella of Recorder Media Group, which also houses Indiana Minority Business Magazine.
The staff writer will write news and feature articles, as well as news briefs. Candidates should be comfortable interviewing sources, gathering news and using AP style.

The staff writer’s responsibilities will include:
- Reporting and writing content as assigned
- Working with newsroom management to determine an article’s angle, length and format
- Being able to cover breaking news and quickly turn around copy for digital publication as well as possible follow-up articles for print
