The Indianapolis Indians fell short in the series finale against the Columbus Clippers, with a final score of 5-2 at Huntington Park in Ohio on Aug. 25.
The Indians failed to hold back the Clippers, with the home team taking the lead in the first inning with a home run from Clippers catcher Juan Brito.
Despite a fleeting lead after the second inning, thanks to an RBI single from Indians catcher Dylan Shockley, the Indians were unable to maintain the momentum.
Following the contest, Shockley expressed joy for simply playing baseball.
“My 5-year-old self would be proud of me,” Shockley said regarding playing minor (and major) league baseball. “It is definitely a dream.”
The Clippers all but secured their victory with a three-run fourth inning, underscored by a two-run home run from outfielder George Valera.
Pitchers Carmen Mlodzinski and Ryan Borucki put up a strong defense for Indianapolis, with Mlodzinski firing 1.2 scoreless innings and Borucki putting forth strikeouts in a scoreless eighth inning.
Indianapolis Indians pitching coach Drew Benes knows that the league can be competitive at any given moment.
“Once you make it to Double-A or Triple-A, the big leagues, everybody is good,” Benes said. “Everybody is talented. They are here for a reason.”
Second baseman Nick Gonzales made a solid 1-for-4 performance as the Indians’ lead batter, continuing to make strides in his recovery from a groin strain.
Despite the loss, the Indians are gearing up to bounce back as they return home to Victory Field to face the Louisville Bats in a seven-game series.
The series against the Bats begins Aug. 27. For ticket information, visit milb.com/indianapolis/tickets.
