The Indianapolis Indians put on an impressive offensive display during their Negro Leagues-inspired baseball game against the Columbus Clippers, resulting in a huge 18-5 victory on June 23.

The game was held in Indianapolis at Victory Field, with an enormous crowd of 13,312 fans in attendance, which was the largest home attendance of the 2023 season so far.

This game marked the second-to-last game of Negro Leagues Baseball Week. The Indianapolis Indians sported their American Brewing Company (ABC) jerseys all week long. The logo at Victory Field also received the retro treatment for Negro Leagues Baseball Week.

Indy’s strong offense led to 18 hits, including 10 for extra bases, during the game. The team was led by Jared Triolo, who recorded three of the team’s 10 extra base hits, including two triples, and capped the second inning with a run-scoring single. Miguel Andújar was also notable, with four hits during the game, including a two-run single into right.

The Indianapolis Indians were only one run shy of tying the record set in May 2004.

Columbus responded with five runs of their own in the third inning, but Indianapolis dominated the rest of the game, scoring the game’s final 12 runs.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Week concluded on June 24. The Indians outscored the Clippers 39-11, winning four out of five games.

The Indians return to Victory Field on July 4, where they will take on the Memphis Redbirds. The Independence Day return marks the beginning of a six-game bout against Memphis.
