Meet an Author, Be an Author is back with some new and exciting additions.

The annual book fair program, hosted by the Indianapolis Public Library, made possible by Friends of the Library, is set to take place Oct. 21 from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St. Avid readers and aspiring authors of all ages are welcome to come meet and chat with more than 40 of Indianapolis’ own published authors.

“The book fair is a chance to explore the local literary scene. We have books suitable for all ages covering a variety of genres, from nonfiction to fantasy,” Jill Edwards, adult program specialist with The Indianapolis Public Library, said in a statement. “We are happy to provide space for local writers to share their work, grow in their craft, and make connections, and for readers to update their personal library.”

In addition to networking with local authors, guests will be able to purchase signed works and meet with IndyPL Book Selectors to talk about the reviewing process and having their works included in IndyPL’s collection. Guests will also get to chat with the Indiana Writers Center and the Speed City Sisters in Crime.

There will also be nine workshops ranging on topics surrounding the writing and publishing process from between noon and 4 p.m. Some of the topics include The Writing Process – A Scary but Ultimately Rewarding Journey, Poetics of Witnessing Joy, Oral History for Beginners, The Perils and Promises of Big AI to Literature, InDesign: A Powerful Tool for Your Book and more.

New this year is the Reading Room, where guests can sit in while local authors give readings of their work. Meet an Author, Be an Author is open to the public and free to attend. For more information, visit indy.org.
