The ninth largest and fastest growing school district in Indiana broke ground on a new $20 million administration building Sept. 8. The Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township anticipates the building, located at 5710 Lawrence Village Parkway, will be completed by early 2025.
The Fort Harrison Re-Use Authority donated the land for the new facility to the school corporation in 2023. The facility will house the districtās business operations and executive offices. The current administration building located at 6501 Sunnyside Road will continue to house Lawrence Advance Academy, several alternative and special needs programs, and the future Craig Academy.
āWe are excited to move our business operations to a more central location within the school district thanks to the Fort Harrison Re-Use Authority and the City of Lawrence,ā Superintendent Shawn A. Smith said. āThis new construction is an important part of the redevelopment of Fort Benjamin Harrison, and we are honored to support the community.ā
The new construction will occur with no increased taxation of district homeowners and will be financed using bond money. The new facility is not a part of the ten 2019 referendum-funded capital projects.
