āOur significant investment in the health and well-being of our city is imperative, as the importance of mental health becomes ever more clear for public health community-wide,ā said Hogsett.
āThis funding represents our commitment to being proactive rather than reactive, mitigating mental health struggles, and achieving positive juvenile justice outcomes.ā
MHA of Indy collaborated with a review committee of six members to identify 15 sub-recipients that demonstrate innovative and impactful strategies to confront mental health and juvenile justice issues.

āThese nonprofits have demonstrated an unyielding commitment to addressing mental health and juvenile justice in our community that provides crucial resources and support that many Indianapolis families depend on,ā said Julie Hayden, MHA of Indy executive director.
āThrough our Vitality Grant program, we can support these deserving organizations, enabling them to further their reach and reinforce their effectiveness.ā
One grant recipient, Adult & Child Health, plans to utilize the funding to establish crisis receiving and stabilization services in a living room model, offering support to individuals facing mental health crises.
This model includes a diverse treatment team, featuring peer recovery specialists and a psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner. The organization will be able to deliver care during times when mental health crises are most prevalent, including evenings and weekends.
Mayor Hogsett has made numerous key investments to address substance use disorders and mental health crises in Indianapolis over recent years, including investments for expansion of the Assessment & Intervention Center, creation of the Clinician-Led Community Response program and expansion of programs designed to address substance use disorders through the recently announced Opioid Settlement Community Grant.
