Hoosier mothers face one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the nation. For Black women in Indiana, the rate of death within the first year after giving birth are up to four times higher than that of white women.
Women4Change Indiana will host a panel, āListen, Connect, Participate: Maternal Health and Infant Mortalityā at 6:30 p.m. May 27. The free virtual event will be moderated by Velvet Miller, project director for Not One More: Promoting Maternal Health and Preventing Maternal Death.
Panelists include state Rep. Vanessa Summers, State Health Commissioner Dr. Kristina Box, Marion County Public Health Director Dr. Virginia Caine, and Lucia Guerra-Reyes, associate professor at the IU School of Public Health.
