JAWS fellowship participants visited Indy’s Global Village Museum in July 2026 to create storytelling projects using new journalism and photography skills.
Student fellow Evan Lewis-Cook presented a series of photographs as his final project, “Connecting to Heritage,” an exploration of his German culture. See the photos below from his visit to the Global Village Museum.
On July 16, students visited Indy’s Global Village Welcome Center to explore cultural exhibits and document diverse global traditions. The center featured a variety of cultures, regional history galleries, and physical artifacts representing cultures from around the world. While walking through the exhibits, students photographed traditional clothing, historic household items and regional goods to capture how different communities preserve their heritage.
Exploring the exhibits at Indy’s Global Village provided a hands-on way to connect personal roots with broader world history. Seeing authentic items — from household items to traditional stoneware and clothing — helped bring cultural identity to life beyond standard textbook descriptions.
