The Indianapolis Recorder is celebrating Black Business Month with “Taste, Toast and Talk,” the media group’s first ever professional networking mixer for Black business owners.
“This event is not only a great opportunity for Black and brown entrepreneurs to grow and network with one another, but it is also a necessity and integral to the advancements of our communities,” Recorder Multimedia and Sports Reporter Noral Parham said.
Local business owners are invited to network and learn about valuable resources to help grow their businesses.
“Being a business owner today, especially without tech-savvy skills, is incredibly challenging,” Recorder Production Manager Jeana Ouattara said. “Sometimes, we need to return to the good old face-to-face methods of forging relationships to truly advance our businesses.”
The free event will feature music, food, drinks and giveaways. Attendees can bring their business card for a chance to win door prizes.

“I always love supporting Black-owned businesses,” Indianapolis Recorder Editor-in-Chief Camike Jones said. “This event will be a way for Black business owners to connect with one another and just have some fun.”
The City of Indianapolis recognizes August as Black Business Month. Nationally, the annual celebrations began in 2004 with Frederick E. Jordan and John William Templeton.
Jordan of the engineering firm F.E. Jordan and Associates and Templeton, president and executive director of the scholarly publishing company eAccesscorp, designated August as the month to honor Black entrepreneurship. They wanted to recognize the determination and resilience of Black business owners.
“Indiana has a rich history of dynamic Black business owners,” Jones said. “Looking back at the legacies of Madam C. J. Walker and Bill Mays and seeing all those who have come after, there is so much here to celebrate.”
“Taste, Toast and Talk” will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Aug. 25 at P30, 3039 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, 46226. The event is free, but registration is encouraged and available here.
