The Indianapolis Housing Agency (IHA) is accepting applications for Section 8, or housing choice, vouchers until 11:59 p.m. July 28. Once the application window closes, a random lottery will select 7,500 tenants from the application pool to be added to the wait list for the voucher program, according to a video on the IHA website.
The IHA wait list has not been open since 2016.
The housing choice voucher program is housing assistance that allows tenants to choose housing in the private market that meets program requirements. The program is available to Indianapolis residents who are at or below a certain income limit, which varies depending on how many people are in the household. Tenants also need to be 17 years or older and need an email address to apply.
Tenants can apply for the program on the IHA website. Applicants who have questions or canāt apply online can call the Housing Choice Help Center at 866-411-1897 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 27 and July 28.
Selected tenants will be notified by the IHA.
