Ronald McDonald House Charities offers $100,000 in scholarships

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) of Central Indiana will award scholarships to Indiana students through the 2012 RMHC Scholarship program.

RMHC offers scholarships to students in financial need who have demonstrated academic achievement, leadership and community involvement.

RMHC of Central Indiana is now accepting applications through Jan. 27.

Students applying for the ASIA, RMHC African-American Future Achievers, RMHC Scholars and HACER scholarships can receive $5,000 to further their education. HACER applicants will also be eligible for the national scholarship of $100,000.

Since the program began in 2009, RMHC of Central Indiana has awarded $280,000 in scholarships. Across the country, RMHC has awarded more than $40 million to high school students to offset the cost of college.

The Central Indiana scholarship program is composed of:

ā€¢ RMHC African-American Future Achievers Scholarship – Applicant must have at least one parent of African-American or Black Caribbean heritage.

ā€¢ RMHC/Asian Student Increasing Awareness (ASIA) Scholarship – Applicant must have at least one parent of Asian/Pacific-Islander heritage.

ā€¢ RMHC/Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources (HACER) – Applicant must have at least one parent of Hispanic heritage.

ā€¢ RMHC Scholars – All students may apply regardless of ethnic heritage.
