In celebration of Project Indy’s first year, Mayor Joe Hogsett will join Indianapolis youth and community partners at Douglass Park, on Thursday, July 21 for an End of Summer Block Party.
Project Indy, Indianapolis’ first comprehensive summer jobs program has worked with youth employment providers to identify more than 1,000 teen jobs during the program’s inaugural summer.
With the help of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, EmployIndy, Indy Chamber, MCCOY, TeenWorks and other community partners, Project Indy convened resources from across the private and public sectors to provide job training, internships and employment opportunities for Indianapolis teens. In addition, the comprehensive plan enjoyed White House support, with Indianapolis chosen as a “Summer Impact Hub” by the Department of Labor. Thursday’s event is a celebration of this year’s efforts and a chance to encourage Indianapolis youth to get involved next summer.
Speakers at Thursday’s event will include representatives from HUD and S.T.E.P, Project Indy participants, Deputy Secretary of Labor Chris Lu, Congressman André Carson, as well as Mayor Joe Hogsett.
