Tech’s Graham is player of the week

More by this author

After missing the first game of the season with an ankle injury, Arsenal Tech running back Damon Graham has been a man on a mission.

In a recent game, he rushed for 282 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns to help the Titans beat Fort Wayne’s South Side High School 47-27.

Graham, a senior and a Coach E all Marion county pre season pick, has had three 200-yard games this season and is the leading rusher in Marion County with one less game.

Games of the Week

Warren Central vs. Carmel:

The 6-0 Warren Central Warriors play the 6-0 Carmel Greyhounds in Lucas Oil Stadium. This game is full of sub plots.

Former Warren Central coach Kevin Wright is now in his second year as head coach at Carmel. He won 3 state championships at Warren before leaving in 2005. Carmel is No. 5 in the state in scoring averaging over 50 points per game and No. 3 in defense allowing only 6 points per game. The 2011 Warrior team has been called the team of the decade with 17 of its 22 starters looking to or having committed to division 1A colleges.

The heralded Warrior defense will have to play discipline assignment football if they hope to stop the Greyhounds triple option attack. The Greyhounds’ defense has not faced a team as big and as physical as the Warriors. Warren has two running backs (Deionte Buckley and Shaquille Breeding) that have rushed for more than 500 yards after five games this season.

This promises to be a battle in Lucas Oil. The Greyhounds have been to four state championship games in the last seven years and the Warriors won a state championship in 2009.

Ben Davis vs. Center Grove:

After their week four 27-21 loss to Warren Central, the Ben Davis Giants have been itching for another big game to show that the Giant tradition is back.

At 5-1, both teams are battling to stay alive for the Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference (MIC) regular season championship. The Center Grove Trojans pride themselves on being a physical running team; coach Moore’s wing-T attack has troubled opposing defensive coordinators for years.

This was supposed to be a rebuilding year for the Trojans, but coach Moore has his team on the hunt. The Giants are playing good defensively like they always do and are averaging more than 30 points per game offensively.

The Giants’ overall team speed should pose problems for the Trojans. Make your way to the Southside for this game – it will be a physical brawl.

Lawrence Central vs. Southport:

The 5-1 Lawrence Central Bears come into week seven with perhaps the most explosive offense in 5A football. The Bears have home run hitters all over the field and the general quarterback Dre Townsend is doing a great job of spreading the ball to everyone.

The 4-2 Cardinals are playing good and sound football; coach Peebles has his team competing at a high level and are hanging on for a chance to win the conference Indiana championship.
