One of the spookiest days is fast approaching. The evening when witches and goblins are standing at neighborhood doors shouting trick or treat will be among the familiar events of what this holiday has to offer.
As the weather has cooled to an autumn crisp, summerās warmth has long gone; and along with the seasonās change comes the arrival of the scariest celebratory day this chilled season has to offer ā Halloween.
Festivities for this Oct. 31 tradition for thousands of Hoosiers have become part of the holidayās zest. Children and families alike are anticipating the bags of treats, costumes, bobbing apples and horror films, along with the haunted houses and the decor of Halloween.
With its annual arrival, activities in the city are a must.
The Recorder has provided a small sampling of Halloween happenings for all – so enjoy, and most importantly, be safe while trick-or-treating this very scary season.
The Indianapolis Childrenās Museum presents Monster Manor going on now through Halloween. Itās a haunted house with both frightening and friendly hours, an overnight camp, feast or breakfast with the witches. It also includes Halloween theater with a live animal show, and a trick or treat party. All activities cost in addition to museum admission.

Halloween ZooBoo presented by the Indianapolis Zoo will feature several activities for all ages during this extended weekend Oct. 23-26. Zoo visitors may dress in their favorite Halloween costumes and partake in a safe, friendly and festive atmosphere.
Children will have the opportunity to bowl with pumpkins and ride on several of the zooās Halloween-themed rides. From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. guests can participate in a scavenger hunt in the Hilbert Conservatoryās new exhibit, Autumn Harvest, inside White River Gardens.
This event is free for members and included with regular Zoo admission.

Conner Prairie presents the Headless Horseman Oct. 22-26 and 29-30. Evenings beginning at 6:30 p.m. Conner Prairieās grounds will be transformed into an eerie landscape full of spooky tales, games and traditions that invite families into a world of ghoulishly delightful fun.
Caramel apple or apple cider will be available at the Apple Store. Families can take hayrides through the historic areas while keeping their eyes peeled for the Headless Horseman.
Each evening, families can enjoy childrenās crafts and storytelling and a sing along with live music.

Irvington Halloween Festival celebrated for more than 60 years is running through Oct. 25 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 5500 E. Washington St.
The event will include screenings of vintage horror films, haunted ghost tours and scary stories in Irving Circle Park. The festivities will also include window painting, contests of many sorts, childrenās games, arts and crafts, costume parade and other Halloween-themed activities.
