Expo to offer ‘evidence’ God created Earth

By BRANDON A. PERRY

Whether an individual believes that a spiritual being created the universe or that it simply evolved over time, they would be engaged by what organizers present during the third annual Creation Evidence Expo.

The free conference, sponsored by Zion Unity Baptist Church and numerous collaborators, will be held from Friday, Sept. 21 to Wednesday, Sept. 26 at The Life Church at Southport, 4002 Southport Road.

The expo will include exhibits, a 2,000 square foot dinosaur museum and presentations that discuss the origins and age of the Earth, the development of human beings, the teaching of intelligent design (creationism) in public schools alongside evolution.

Presenters will also offer scientific and archeological “evidence” that they say proves that the world was “intelligently designed” by a high spiritual being.

Some of the topics up for discussion in sessions will include “Alternative Views of Creation,” “Where Did Cain Get His Wife?,” “Was There a Universal Flood?,” “Missing Link: Ape to Man” and others.

Rev. Frederick Boyd, pastor of Zion Unity, said a goal of the Creation Expo is to offer a venue in which educators, pastors and scientists can explore and discuss research that they believe proves that science supports the theory that God created the Earth approximately 6,000 years ago and events recorded in the Bible are historically and scientifically sound.

“We encourage people to come out because they will discover that in places of education our children are not getting the true picture when it comes to the origins of life,” Boyd said. “We are passionately dedicated to re-educating our children and young adults about the lies being perpetrated upon them through school textbooks and other forms of media.”

Boyd and other organizers want attendees, whether they have a faith or not, to know that God specifically designed each individual and humans do not come from animals.

Several prominent guest speakers have been invited to appear at the Expo, including Dr. Carl Baugh, founder of the Creation Evidence Museum; Dr. Thomas Sharp, host of a creation science television program; Dr. Charles Jackson, a Purdue graduate who leads the Creation Truth Foundation, Nick Lally, a public school teacher who switched from evolution to creationism and Rose Ann Salantiri, founder of Creation Science Alive.

Music will be provided by national gospel musicians Danny Deluna and Rosa Sandowski.

The first Creation Evidence Expo (formerly Creation Evidence Crusade) was convened by Boyd, who said he was moved by the Holy Spirit to invite Baugh to speak at this church.

That engagement grew into an exposition the following year, and Boyd changed the event from a “crusade” to an “expo” in order to not offend those who don’t share his views.

This year Boyd is joined by an interracial and interdenominational coalition over 80 local churches that are assisting him with promotions, finances and volunteers.

Rev. Charles Ellis, pastor of 28th Street Baptist Church, believes that it is only fair for creationism to be alongside secular evolution in schools and he says events such as the expo can raise the dialogue needed to make that a reality.

“Right now evolution is pretty much the only way for our kids to go in class,” Ellis said. “It’s good for our community to open discussions about another view of how our world came into being, and the expo will answer questions many people have about this issue.”

Boyd said the expo is designed to be informative as well as persuasive and remind attendees that science validates both creationism and the Bible as authentic.

“Our church community, if we’re gonna penetrate a world that’s locked into evolution and secular humanism, we have to get ourselves armed with information that will help us win the Samaritans, as Jesus did in John chapter 4 with the Samaritan woman when he penetrated her world view and led her to saving grace.”
