Wishard Wellness kicks off the fourth annual Farmers’ Market at Wishard on May 3.
People can look forward to an array of fresh and local produce, mouthwatering baked goods, honey, lavender products and other enticing market items.
In similar fashion to past years, the perimeter of the Wellness Gardens behind the Bryce Building will be transformed into a Farmers’ Market every Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., now through Sept. 6, and will play host to a number of local vendors, farmers, bakers and beekeepers. Signs on campus will direct individuals to the location of the market.
Also, look for this year’s market to include Duos, a mobile healthy food vendor offering an array of gourmet vegetarian options.
Entertainment will also be new to the mix this year – stay tuned for details and schedules as the market progresses.
Opening earlier this year to maximize the freshness and availability of earlier crops, the market will offer items like asparagus, peas and lettuce in fresher options than in previous years. Mary Robbins-Nierste, a registered nurse and director of Wishard Wellness, said to look for fresh salad items from the market on the salad bar in the Wishard Cafeteria throughout the week.
Since 2005, Wishard Wellness has been in place to encourage health and wellness as a top priority among employees, and the Farmers’ Market at Wishard is just one of the many initiatives helping to drive this effort.
“Wellness is such an important initiative here at Wishard,” said Robbins-Nierste. “We’re committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle for our patients, guests and staff, and the Farmers’ Market at Wishard is another way we can do that. Tuesdays are a favorite day around Wishard. The hallways are already buzzing about the start of the market.”
While the program’s aim is to attract Wishard employees and others on the IU Medical Center campus, all visitors and guests are welcome to stop by and visit the Farmers’ Market at Wishard.
