More by this author

The countdown to Christmas Eve has officially begun, with some consumers racing to stores and rushing online to find the latest gifts.

Determining the likes and dislikes of the adults in your life can be done once you get to know them. However, mastering the fickle tastes of children can be more challenging.

What items do today’s youth consider cool? Are there any that can be educational as well as fun?

To help, the Recorder has included a list of some of the top items for kids and teens this holiday season, according to popular outlets such as Amazon, Target, Toys R Us and Walmart. Happy holidays, and remember to shop responsibly!

If you see pictures of a red bird in Indiana, it’s either the Ball State University cardinal, or one of the growing legion of Angry Birds. Plush (or stuffed) Angry Birds (usually under $10) are selling fast, as well as the new $25 Knock on Wood game.

Crayola Color Wonder Sound Studio

Kids can take old fashioned coloring to the next level with this popular interactive color pad. With a choice of 60 different colors, they can color, assign sounds, create stories and play them back. Normal retail price: $7-$20, depending on size and type.

Singing Machine – Portable CDG

Bring out their inner star or have a fun party with the Singing Machine. Includes a built in disco light system, wired microphone, a vertical loading CDG player, built in speakers and a free music sampler, among other features. Normal retail price: $60.

Sing-A-Ma-Jigs

OK… they have a funny name and no one is sure what kind of animal they are, but these cute creatures have been placed among the hottest items for pre-school age children.
