IF Theatre’s “unknown forces” will be a new, unique experience for both artists and audiences.

In a continued effort to increase access to theater, IF Theatre is presenting “unknown forces” — a free, one-night-only performance from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on April 4 in the Factory Arts District. The event features scenes directed by 20 different directors with nearly 70 performers and dozens of visual artists — amounting to more than 100 local creatives.

“At its heart, ‘unknown forces’ is about celebrating artistic differences,” Paul Daily, executive director of IF Theatre, said in a statement. “What better way to make a story relatable to people, than to give audiences an incredibly diverse array of creative voices to relate to?’”

As its presence in Indianapolis’ creative scene solidifies, IF Theatre continues to promote new opportunities for local artists while maintaining its status as a producing theater and presenting house. IF Theatre’s first project since rebranding — “unknown forces” — is an “immersive, multi-media performing arts event involving nearly 100 local creatives,” according to a press release.

IF Theatre aims to shed new light on an adaptation of a classic story inspired by a real-life criminal case from 1821. By incorporating a variety of creative elements, perspectives and styles, “unknown forces” is theater “for the people.”

Attendees will be given a map of the building with information about each scene being presented and will be encouraged to explore the space to view each of them. During the event, attendees will also be able to engage with the district’s open artist studios as part of First Friday.

“unknown forces” will feature scenes presented and directed by the following local creatives:

• Charla Booth
• Liz Carrier
• Paul Daily
• Cameron DeLucio
• Raja El Majzoub
• Natalie Fischer
• Trent K. Hawthorne-Richards
• Jay Hemphill
• Alicia Ana Hernandez-Roulet
• Andrew Kramer
• Jacob Lang
• Lakesha Lorene
• Max Andrew McCreary
• Doug Powers
• Chris Saunders
• Paige Scott
• Alicia Sims
• Georganna Smith Wade
• Jenni White

Some scenes included in “unknown forces” contain theatrical violence and misogynistic and homophobic language. IF Theatre will indicate these scenes with a content advisory on a map so guests may use discretion and avoid them if necessary.

“unknown forces” takes place from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on April 4 at the Factory Arts District — formerly the Circle City Industrial Complex — 1125 Brookside Ave. The event is open to the public and free to attend. For more information, visit indyfringe.org/unknown-forces.
