What’s the old saying? March comes in like a lion and out like a lamb.
Regardless of the weather, Hoosiers will have plenty to do in March, from ushering in spring to March Madness, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, Eid, Holi and Women’s History Month. The Recorder has put together a few events, activities and free or low-cost things to do around Indianapolis this March.

Thursday, March 5
“Six: A Drag Parody Musical” — $37
Phoenix Theatre, 705 N. Illinois
Indy Drag Theatre kicks off its 2026 season with a parody of the Broadway musical “Six” which is a concert-style retelling of King Henry VIII’s ex-wives. The production is onstage Thursday-Sunday through March 15.
Latin Dance Party: Celebrate Women’s History Month — Free ($10 after 8 p.m.)
The Jazz Kitchen, 5377 College Ave.
Beginning at 6 p.m., the Jazz Kitchen is celebrating Latin dancing with the sounds of DJ Gil, DJ LatinSpy and DJ Mambo Sound. The evening will include a full dinner and beverage menu, free dance lessons with Austin and Jen and late-night tacos. Ladies get in free until 10 p.m.

First Friday at the Athenaeum: Fieldnotes by Deonna Craig — FREE
Athenaeum Art Space, 401 E. Michigan St.
Fieldnotes by Deonna Craig is a body of work shaped by travel and return, inviting guests for close looking with visible layers, repetitions to create rhythm and subtle shifts in color to echo moving across land. The exhibition is on display from 6-8 p.m. during the First Friday reception, featuring refreshments and a cashless cash bar.

The Queens of Art Collective — $15-$23

In honor of Women’s History Month, Newfields’ Queens of Art Collective aims to highlight the work of four African American women whose art practices are rooted in both lived experiences and creative resilience. The Sleeping Beauty — $23.50+

The Indianapolis Ballet is collaborating with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra to present Tchaikovsky’s “The Sleeping Beauty.” The beloved fairytale is onstage for three performances March 6-7.

Saturday, March 7
Tiana’s Joyful Celebration — $32-$36 (Recurring through Jan. 3, 2027)
The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N. Meridian St.
Children and families are invited to celebrate their “special spice” alongside Princess Tiana. Included with the price of admission, the exhibit allows guests to decorate parade floats, design parade costumes, cook up a pot of gumbo, rehearse with the spasm band and join Tiana for a performance.
Lunar New Year 2026 Celebration — FREE
Central Library, 41 E. St. Clair St.
Presented by the Indiana Association of Chinese Americans (IACA), the 2026 Lunar New Year celebration will feature cultural booths, vendors, a Chinese-American style Lion Dance, Tai Chi exercise presentations and more than 20 performances by Chinese and Asian American performing artists from noon to 4 p.m. in the Central Library’s auditorium.

The Indianapolis Children’s Choir Presents: Jubilate Deo — $17

Celebrating 40 years of impact on the Indianapolis community, singers of all ages from the Indianapolis Children’s Choir are coming together for a remastered performance of Dan Forrest’s “Jubilate Deo.” The concert takes place at 4 p.m. and includes Beginning Level Choirs, Lyric Choirs, Indy Voice and Master Chorale.
Indianapolis Jazz Collective | Wes Montgomery Tribute — $18.87-$54.95

Led by Rob Dixon, the Indianapolis Jazz Collective will honor the late jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery, bringing together Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Famers, such as Steve Allee, Jon Wood and Kenny Phelps. The 4 p.m. show is open to guests of all ages, and the 7 p.m. show is 21+.

“Sentenced” — $35

Produced and narrated by Stephen Curry, “Sentenced” is a documentary exploring the illiteracy epidemic in America. Presented in partnership with Indy Reads, Indiana Sports Corp and the Children’s Literacy Project, the documentary screening is from 4-7 p.m., featuring a community discussion immediately after.
Thursday, March 12
“Funny Girl” — $25
Hedback Theatre, 1847 Alabama St.
Presented by Footlite Musicals, “Funny Girl” is based on the life of Fanny Brice, a Jewish comedienne and entertainer from the 1920s. The show focuses on Fanny’s rise to stardom and tumultuous romance with the charming but impulsive con artist Nick Arnstein and is onstage through March 22.
Steward Speakers: Soledad O’Brien — $25-$50
Part of Steward Speakers’ Building Back Better series, journalist, entrepreneur and TV host Soledad O’Brien will take part in a fireside chat-style conversation about her career and inspirations.

Beethoven’s 8th Symphony — $15-$106

Conducted by Anthony Parnther, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra will highlight voices of change with James Lee III’s “Phenomenal Queen: Coretta Scott King,” performed by renowned soprano Angela Brown. The production also features Principal Viola Yu Jin performing Chen Yi’s “Xian shi,” with performances at 7:30 p.m. on March 13 and 5:30 p.m. on March 14.

Eden to Eternity: Molas from the San Blas Islands— FREE

Presented in the McFarland Hall Gallery, Eden to Eternity tells the story of the Bible through 40 molas — panels of reversed embroidery applied to the front and back of the Cuna women’s blouses, from the San Blas Islands off the coast of Panama. Running March 14-15, Brickworld Indianapolis is a LEGO exposition featuring local artists and engineers of the IndLUG and more hobby groups across the country. Garfield Park Arts Center, 2431 Conservatory Drive
Hosting its first Swap Sesh of the year, organizers gathered more than 700 lbs of clothing between November and December 2025. The event is free to attend and participate in, but the rules are as follows: there is a 10-item limit, remove pet hair and smoke before donating and be kind to the team of volunteers.

IF Theatre and Betty Rage Productions are teaming up to present a festival featuring four 60-minute theatrical works led by women, curating a variety of art experiences for women. FemmeFest takes place March 26-29 with shows running each night at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

School teacher, plus-sized model, motivational speaker and writer Tacarra Williams is coming to Indianapolis March 27-29 for five shows at the Helium Comedy Club. Williams has performed on every major stage in New York and Hollywood, from the Apollo Theatre to The Laugh Factory; she was also the only woman in the history of the Shaq Comedy All-Star Competition to reach the finals.
