Public meetings continue on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Glendale Library, 6101 N. Keystone Ave., to decide whether “E Pluribus Unum (Out of Many One)” by artist Fred Wilson, moves forward.
Through the “Community Matters” discussion series, people will have an opportunity to share how they feel about “E Pluribus Unum,” a proposed pubic art installation for the Indianapolis Cultural Trail: A Legacy of Gene & Marilyn Glick. The “Community Matters” discussion series, which is presented by the Central Indiana Community Foundation, will offer an open dialogue on artist Fred Wilson’s piece, which would recreate a figure currently found on the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. Using this figure, Wilson proposes to create a new “reality” and meaning for the figure in a way that challenges how we view and ultimately interpret the image.
These small group discussions are being designed to ask participants to express their reactions to the proposed artwork, to provide suggestions on the project’s location (if it moves forward) and to give input on the types of future artwork they would like to see in our city. After the group discussion, people will have the opportunity to record their perspectives (in writing or audio/video form). All comments received before, during and following the public meetings will be taken into consideration as a final decision is made about the project’s future.
For more information or to register, visit www.fredwilsonindy.org or call (317) 631-6542, ext. 173. Each discussion is limited to 20 participants, adults and children aged 12 and older.
