On Sept. 14, Wishard-Eskenazi Health will present the Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek Health Fair at Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek, 9443 E. 38th St., in Indianapolis. The free health fair will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include a special appearance by National Basketball Association (NBA) player Danny Granger.
A team of health care professionals will be on hand to answer questions and administer free health screenings in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere. Health checks provided during the fair will include blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol, BMI, depression, and more. In addition, free immunizations will be provided for children ages 4 to18 who bring a copy of their shot records.
Participants will also have the chance to visit a wide variety of informational booths on topics such as nutrition, health insurance, community resources, HIV information, WIC and more. There will also be staff members from the Wishard-Eskenazi Health Pharmacy available to take unwanted medication for disposal.
In addition to the numerous health screenings and informational booths, Danny Granger, entering his ninth NBA season, will be making an appearance. Granger is an ambassador for the Dribble to Stop Diabetes campaign, Dribble to Stop Diabetes is a national multimedia campaign designed to encourage basketball fans to live an active, healthy lifestyle and raise awareness about type 2 diabetes risk reduction, management and the potentially serious health complications that can be associated with the disease.
The program was developed by the NBA, the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) and the NBA Development League (D-League), in collaboration with the American Diabetes Association and Sanofi US. There will also be fun activities available for the entire family, including kid friendly games and face painting. Door prizes and giveaways will be announced throughout the event.
“This event offers a great opportunity for families in Indianapolis to take advantage of various health resources and screening tools all at one location,” said Dr. Terri Litty, a physician at Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek. “We want the public to feel comfortable and confident in hopes we can become the patients’ medical homes, where they go not only for urgent medical needs but, perhaps more importantly, for preventative care.”
Eskenazi Health Center Grassy Creek, which is located just east of Post Road, provides a wide variety of health care services to the public including primary care for adults and children along with specialty services such as OB/GYN, social services and nutrition counseling. The center is one of 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
This year, Wishard-Eskenazi Health is teaming up with the community to host nine health fairs throughout Indianapolis. The events will offer comprehensive health screenings and information on a variety of topics.
