Woodcarvers Exhibition at Eagle Creek Park

The region’s finest woodworkers and artists will showcase their natural works of art at the annual Woodcarvers Exhibition Feb. 12-13 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Eagle Creek Park’s Earth Discovery Center. The event is free with regular park admission ($5 per car).

Artists will demonstrate how they create their various works and talk with visitors about their craft.

Many of the carvings, sculptures, and other items on display will be available for purchase. Fifteen percent of proceeds from credit card sales will benefit the Eagle Creek Park Foundation Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of Eagle Creek Park.

Valentine’s Cabaret in Carmel

Carmel Community Players (CCP) will present a Valentine’s Cabaret, the third in their community-based talent showcase cabaret series, for three performances Feb. 11-13 at the Carmel Community Playhouse, 14299 Clay Terrace Blvd., Suite 140 in Carmel.

The cabaret talent showcase will include a variety of local actors, singers and musicians, professional and amateur, ranging in age from 10 to adult, performing monologues, dances, vocal selections and instrumental pieces.

Performances are 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday with a 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for senior citizens and students with a valid student ID card.

Dining and dancing at Oak Hill Mansion

Celebrate Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14 with “Dancing by the light of the Moon” at Oak Hill Mansion, 5801 E. 116th St. in Carmel.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. and includes a prime rib dinner buffet. Entertainment will be provided by Indianapolis DJ Sunny Moon. He’ll play a range of love songs, favorite dance songs and individual requests. Cost of the event is $29.95 per person.

Meet the Artists XXIII Gala Reception will be Feb. 19 from 5:45 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Central Library, 40 E. St. Clair St. The entire community is invited to meet the artists whose works will be on display during the Meet the Artists exhibit.

Twisted Stitches will be at the East 38th Street Library Branch, 5420 E. 38th St., on Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. to noon. Adults who love yarn crafts are invited to bring their projects, share patterns, or learn tips and tricks. Join others in making items to donate to local charities. Beginners are welcome.

Record exec to discuss major record labels

Cameo Carlson, executive vice president of Universal Motown Republic Group, will deliver the 2011 Howard Schrott Lecture, “Fame Monsters: The State of the Major Record Label,” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 10, in Butler University’s Eidson-Duckwall Recital Hall.

Civic Theatre to present ‘Miss Saigon’

Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre will present the music of “Miss Saigon,” the 10th longest running musical in history, with three concert performances on Feb. 10, 11 and 12 at the Civic Theatre stage on the campus of Marian University, 3200 Cold Spring Rd.

Based loosely on Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Madame Butterfly,” “Miss Saigon” tells the tragic tale of a doomed romance involving an Asian woman abandoned by her American lover. The setting of the plot is relocated to 1970s Saigon during the Vietnam War.
