More by this author

The DuSable Museum of African-American History in Chicago recently hosted a panel discussion featuring four descendants of prominent African-Americans. The four represented the legacies and work of their ancestors in the fields of intellectualism, medicine, entrepreneurship and activism. The descendants and the program moderator are (left to right) Arthur McFarlane, great-grandson of W.E.B. Du Bois; Dr. Charlene Drew Jarvis, daughter of Dr. Charles Richard Drew (blood bank developer); moderator Zada Johnson, Ph.D., assistant professor of inner-city studies education at the Jacob Carruthers Center for Inner City Studies (Northeastern Illinois University); A’Lelia Bundles, great-great-granddaughter of Madam C.J. Walker; and Michelle Duster, great-granddaughter of Ida B. Wells. The event was produced by panelist Bundles. (Photo/S. C. Peters)
