Mayor Joe Hogsett announced on May 1 that Jordan Gathers will serve as deputy mayor for neighborhoods for the city of Indianapolis.

The appointment is effective Friday, May 1.

“Jordan’s background in strategic city operations and community-centered roles have prepared him well to step into this important role,” said Mayor Hogsett. “Jordan is a service driven leader and brings a deep commitment to expanding opportunities for community members. I’m confident he will play an integral role in uplifting our neighborhoods and help further this administration’s progress toward building a safer, stronger, and more connected Indianapolis.”

Gathers most recently served as executive director of Venues, Parks & Arts for the City of South Bend, where he led the city’s expansive parks system, cultural venues and public spaces. In this role, Gathers oversaw initiatives that supported community vitality, expanded access to recreation, and enhanced the quality of place assets.

As a former Division I student athlete, Gathers competed for St. Bonaventure Bonnies and Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball teams, serving as a team captain and appearing in the NCAA Tournament. He has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communication from St. Bonaventure University and a Master of Business Administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
