ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A British passenger plane heading from England to Egypt with 213 people aboard made an emergency landing in Athens escorted by Greek fighter jets after receiving a bomb threat, Greek officials said.

Greece’s air force said two F-16 jets and a Super Puma helicopter escorted the plane to Athens International Airport, where it landed without incident shortly before 3 p.m. (1200 GMT). The passengers were evacuated and the plane was being checked.

The Thomson Airways flight had been en route from Bristol, England, to Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.

“There were no customer injuries as a result of the alert, and all customers and crew are being looked after in the terminal building while the investigation is being conducted,” said Christian Cull, communications director at TUI UK, the owner of Thomson.

British police said they had been informed of the incident but had no role in dealing with the bomb threat. Greek state TV said the threat was received in a phone call to Thomson.
