The Circle City Chapter of The Links Inc. will host a school supply drive for the tornado impacted students at the Daniel Payne Middle School in Birmingham, Ala.

The chapter already has had a fundraising day at Marcos Pizza, 7125 Georgetown Road, and 10 percent of food sales will be donated to purchase school supplies.

The school supply drive will be July 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Staples at 8640 E. 96th St., Fishers, and 3250 W. 86th St.

“Our goal is to provide at least one grade level with all of the school supplies needed to begin the year,” said Roschelle Major-Banks, president of the Circle City Chapter of The Links.

Daniel Payne Middle School sits in an area greatly devastated by the more than 100 tornadoes that swept through Alabama last April 27. Immediately following the storm aid poured in but the impact still exists as families prepare for the upcoming school year, the need for school supplies adds another burden.

Working in conjunction with administrators at Daniel Payne and the Birmingham Chapter of The Links Inc., the following high need items have been identified: blue and black pens, No. 2 pencils, colored pencils, index cards, pencil sharpeners, loose leaf paper, construction paper, 2 pocket folders, 1 inch binders, hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and paper towels.

“Providing one child with the school supplies needed for the 2011-12 school year costs less than $50 per child. This is a small price to pay to help these families during this trying time,” said Tara Evans, Tornado Relief Effort Coordinator.
