Newfields will welcome its new Melvin & Bren Simon Director of the Indianapolis Museum of Art at Newfields on Nov. 6, 2023.
The 152-acre cultural institution announced Belinda Tate will take over the role of director of IMA at Newfields on Sept. 20. A national search, which considered more than 200 applicants, included a process shaped by input from staff at every level and department at the museum and resulted in Tateās hiring, according to a press release.

Originally from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Tate received her undergraduate degree in art history and museum studies from Yale University and her Master of Arts degree in liberal studies from Wake Forest University. Tate previously served on the American Alliance of Museumās Task Force on Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Inclusion in Museum Excellence and as a past board member of association of Art Museum Directors.

Tate currently serves on the Board of Directors for the American Federation of Arts and as a trustee of Phillips Exeter Academy and has held the role of executive director at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts (KIA) in Kalamazoo, Michigan, since 2014.
