INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – May 22, 2011

MDwise and the Minority Health Coalition of Marion County teamed up to present the “Shower Your Baby with Love” community baby shower on Sunday, May 22, at George Washington Community High School in Indianapolis. Expecting moms, families-and dads too-enjoyed a fashion show featuring the latest in maternity styles and had a chance to play games and win a variety of baby-related prizes. Community Affairs Director for WTHR Angela Cain served as the fashion show’s emcee and provided a variety of child and maternal health facts in between models displaying their outfits.

The event offered informational workshops on safety and health topics, including the importance of regular doctor visits, breastfeeding, depression and pregnancy and safety during sleep. Free blood pressure, body mass index, cholesterol and diabetes screenings were also available. In addition, guests received a baby gift pack and were invited to play games and win some baby-related prizes.

“The fashion show was a big hit! The moms-to-be who turned out for the event loved seeing the numerous options of maternity clothing available for them,” said MDwise’s Johnnie Washington, who attended the event. “It is also important that expecting mothers and their families understand the pregnancy process and proper safety during and after the baby arrives. This event was the perfect combination of education and fun.”
