VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A foundation that provides financial help for the families of Navy SEALs is getting a boost in donations after Osama bin Laden’s death.

The Virginia Beach, Va.-based Navy SEAL Foundation says donations surged about 60 percent on Monday from the week before after news that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan by a SEAL team.

Director of Development David Guernsey said Tuesday the foundation received $6,000 in donations on Monday alone. He says there are some days during the summer the group receives no donations.

Guernsey says many of the online donations from around the country came with notes thanking the SEALs for their service..

The foundation provides help including funeral assistance, morale services and scholarships for the children of SEALs.
