Circle Centre Mall movie theater Regal UA closes for good

More by this author

The Regal UA Circle Centre theater in downtown Indianapolis has permanently closed, marking the end of its nearly 30-year run in Circle Centre Mall.

The theater, which opened in September 1995 alongside the mall itself, ceased operations on Oct. 31. Facing financial struggles, Cineworld filed for bankruptcy in September 2022 and has since closed numerous theaters nationwide.

A cornerstone of the mall and the downtown Indianapolis scene, the theater’s closing adds attention to a mall already showing signs of lifelessness. Many stores and eateries such as Gamestop, ManAlive and Chik-fil-A exited 4Circle Centre.

The closure of Regal UA Theater raises questions surrounding the future of Circle Centre Mall, which already faces challenges amid declining foot traffic and modern retail practices.

With a sign reading “Regal Theater has permanently closed” in the window of the once-cornerstone box office, moviegoers will have to find another silver screen to enjoy.
