20th Annual MLK JR. Community Celebration
Peace Learning Center will celebrate the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. at its 20th-anniversary community festival. This family-friendly, free event will focus on celebrating Black excellence in the community. The event will feature live performances by local artists and more. Soul supergroup to play at HI-FI
Chamber Music, a band with members who have connections to the Indy Chamber of Commerce, has become a “soul supergroup” for local music fans. See them perform at HI-FI on Friday, Jan. 12, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $12. More information can be found at hifiindy.com.
Localmotion
Every second Saturday, Old SOUL Entertainment invites the public to an open mic that celebrates the creative expression of the artistic community in Indianapolis. The next Localmotion takes place Jan. 13 at Fletcher Place Arts & Books. This all-ages event starts at 7 p.m. and costs $7 to attend.
All-ages Jazz Jam
This monthly jazz series, hosted by Mark Ortwein, Chase Blackburn and other local jazz favorites, is the only all-ages jazz jam in Indianapolis, and it is free to attend. This month’s event is on Jan. 10 at Square Cat Vinyl. A sign-up sheet goes out at 6:30 p.m. Music goes from 7–10 p.m. Beer, wine, coffee and other non-alcoholic drinks will be available.
