‘Hidden Figures’ actor to visit IU

Academy Award-winning actor Octavia Spencer will discuss typecasting in Hollywood at Indiana University Bloomington’s IU Auditorium on April 9. Prior to her appearances in “Hidden Figures” and “The Shack,” Spencer played the role of a nurse an estimated 16 times. The lecture is free to IU students and staff, and $10 tickets are available for the general public. A moderated Q&A will follow the discussion. FLAT12 ROLLER JAM 

On Saturday, April 8, page your friends and head over to The Roller Cave for a hella tight late night ’90s Roller Jam in support of nonprofit Paws and Think. Flat12 beer will be on tap. Visit from 10 p.m. to midnight to skate the night away under black lights to ’90s jams. Tickets are $15 dollars.

 

CRESCENT AT THE THIRSTY SCHOLAR

Crescent Ulmer is a folk songwriter who travels like a blues-man. He will be performing at the Thirsty Scholar on Saturday, April 8, from 9–11 p.m. This is a free, all-ages event. For more information on Crescent Ulmer, visit crescentisalive.com.

 

CHOCOLATE FEST 2017

Chocolate Fest 2017 is Indiana’s Sweetest Day. Attendees will get the chance to sample from some of Indiana’s best chocolatiers and bakeries, and enjoy interactive performances from Arts for Learning Teaching Artists. The sweet fun will happen at the Indianapolis Artsgarden on Saturday, April 8, from 10 a.m.–2 p.m. All proceeds from the event benefit Arts for Learning. SKATE WITH THE EASTER BUNNY

Grab the kids and your camera and skate with the Easter Bunny at Skateland, 3902 N. Glen Arm Road, Indianapolis, IN. The bunny will be at Skateland from 11 a.m.–1:30 p.m. on April 8 and April 15. Admission is $5, and skate rentals are $4. Call (317) 291-6795 for more information.

 

INDIANA COMIC CON

Indiana Comic Con hosts exhibitors that cater to a wide spectrum of interests including comic books, magazines, toys, games, Star Wars, Star Trek, anime, manga, cosplay, artwork, sketches and apparel. In addition, a roster of comic industry professionals and comicdom-related celebrities will be in attendance for fans to meet and greet. Comic Con takes place from April 14-16. Tickets start at $30 and can be purchased at indianacomiccon.com.
