Bow Wow and Monica headline Classic post game show

Heart-throb performer star Bow Wow and Grammy-nominee recording artist Monica will headline the post-game show of the 28th Circle City Classic® Saturday, October 1st at Lucas Oil Stadium, organizers announced today.

IBE President Tanya S. Bell said, “Our objective is to package the most entertaining weekend imaginable; to surround the main attraction – which is the showdown between historically black colleges Albany State (GA) and Kentucky State – with attractions for the entire family.” The performance is free with admittance to the game.

Bow Wow has been a staple on the hip-hop scene since his 2000 debut hit album, “Beware of the Dog.” He was only 13 at the time and referred to as Lil’ Bow Wow. Two years later, he started his acting career with a cameo appearance in “All About the Benjamins.”

Since then, Bow Wow has made more prominent appearances in such films as “Like Mike”, “Johnson Family Vacation”, “The Fast and the Furious”, “Lottery Ticket” and this year’s box office smash “Madea’s Big Happy Family”. His numerous television appearances include “Entourage”, “Smallville”, “Roesha” and “Ugly Betty”.

Atlanta R&B vocalist Monica debuted in 1995 with the platinum Top Ten singles “Don’t Take It Personal” and “Before You Walk Out of My Life.” After appearing on LL Cool J “Mr. Smith” later that year, she recorded another killer duet with Brandy “The Boy Is Mine,” which spent several weeks at the top of the singles charts during summer 1998. “Still Standing,” was released in 2010 – preceded by a BET reality series of the same name -in which she debuted in October 2009.

“The addition of Bow Wow and Monica offers musical enticement for a broad audience and accents a weekend that already included a top-flight high school football game, college fair, tailgate parties, comedy show, gospel explosion, classic cabaret, coronation pageant, parade and the perennial crowd pleasing battle of the bands.”

The most gratifying aspect of the Circle City Classic experience, according to Bell, remains generation of scholarship funds for Indiana students generated by proceeds from the event. In less than three decades, Circle City Classic – co-sponsored by the Indiana Sports Corporation – has awarded more than $2.5 to Hoosier students.

Circle City Classic tickets are available at Indiana Black Expo, 3145 N. Meridian St. and TicketMaster locations or go to www.circlecityclassic.com.
