The African American Coalition of Indianapolis (AACI), in partnership with the Indianapolis Recorder and Radio One, hosted the first broadcast and live stream of a mayoral debate centered around Black issues, featuring Democratic incumbent Mayor of Indianapolis Joe Hogsett and Republican competitor Jefferson Shreve.
The broadcast took place Oct. 8 at 5 p.m.
Many community members engaged in the mayoral debate via the comment section of the Indianapolis Recorder’s Facebook and YouTube page.
This is one of one of three mayoral debates happening ahead of the election.
“Black leaders are working hard in their own way to move the community forward. We have our own plans, agendas and initiatives. We’re not asking for anyone to save us. We’re looking for a partner for our progress. We’re asking the community to decide who that candidate is,” said AACI policy director Marshawn Wooley.
For those who missed the debate, a recording is available via the Indianapolis Recorderās Facebook page and YouTube page.
