Since I’m still here …

The nudge

For those who wait

“When Jesus arrived at Peter’s house, Peter’s mother-in-law was in bed with a high fever. But when Jesus touched her hand, the fever left her; and she got up and prepared a meal for them!” Matthew 8:14-17.

My pastor preached a sermon that made me see this passage through a new lens. She shared that after Peter’s mother-in-law was healed, the first thing she did was serve those who were in her home. It was interesting that this was her next move. But, as my pastor shared, her actions were the embodiment of “Since I’m here, I might as well serve.”

Since I’m here …

This woman was given another chance, and the first thing she did was be a blessing.

Since I’m still here …

Each day is an opportunity to be a blessing … I wonder what would happen if I changed my mindset to:

Since I’m still here, I might as well …

Write the blog, send the card, create the art, have the conversation, encourage my loved ones, send the text, accept the assignment, preach the sermon, sing the song, launch the project, serve my family …

Since I’m still here …

What if that were my mantra every day of the year?

Since I’m still here …

Since I’m here, I might as well …

What if this is the message I want my life to embody and tell?

An ellipsis is a punctuation mark of three dots (. . .) that shows an omission of words, represents a pause or suggests there is something left unsaid.

It also suggests that there is more.

This is the usage that I was aiming for …

To imply that Since I’m here … there is more in store.

Peter’s mother-in-law was grateful for the healing and realized that life was dear.

She immediately wanted to be a blessing since she was still here.

Since I’m still here …

I am grateful for the woman who saw three women weeping at a nearby table and asked if she could pray. Since she was still here in the restaurant, she might as well be a blessing. She understood the assignment.

It is the woman in the drive-thru that paid for the person’s meal behind her. Since she was still here in the line, she might as well be a blessing.

Since I’m still here …

Since you’re still here …

Since we’re still here …

Remember what one of the usages the of ellipsis is for …

That is the suggestion that there is more …

Since I’m still here …

Since you’re still here …

Since we’re still here …

We might as well be a blessing …

Since I’m Still Here …
