Monumental Yoga on the Circle

More by this author

On Sunday, June 21, Monument Circle will come alive with yogis of all different levels. The free yoga class will begin at noon with DJ HyFi, a pioneer in the fusion of yoga and electronic music, providing live music and Dr. Sue Morter of The Morter Institute leading Savasana, an integral part of yoga. New this year will be a Yoga Village with studios, vendors and food plus free guided meditation on the Monument Circle before class. The Yoga Village will take place before class from 10 – 11:45 a.m. and after class from 1:15 – 2:30 p.m.

The event is family-friendly. There will be a special 45-minute yoga routine for parents and their children ages 6+ to do simultaneously with the main events (parents must be present with their kids). This will take place in the shade near the Emmis building.

Also new this year: a Monumental Yoga Pre-Party on Saturday, June 20 from 6 – 10 p.m. at the Athenaeum. DJ HyFi and Rob Hess will be coming in from California for an evening of Ecstatic Dance, a freeform movement/dance inspired by music. Tickets are $20 and include two drink tickets for beer or wine and cold-pressed juice from Whole Foods Market.

If you have ever wanted to try yoga and would like to be part of a historic event in Indianapolis, come to Monument Circle in the heart of downtown on June 21 for an hour of relaxation through yoga. This event is free and donations are accepted for local non-profit Mighty Lotus, a 501(c)(3) empowering youth to lead healthy lives through mindfulness and yoga programs in Indianapolis schools. Free Pedal and Park will be available for participants who ride their bike. Participants should bring their own mat and a water bottle.

The event is organized by the Athenaeum Foundation. Presenting Guru Sponsors include: Athenaeum Foundation, Athleta, Blooming Life Yoga Studio + School, Body Mind & Core, Cityoga, Eskenazi Health, Heartfulness, Hot Yoga Indy, Invoke Studio, Morter Health, Scared Rabbit Productions, The Hot Room and Whole Foods Market. Sage Sponsors include: Indy Yogi, NUVO, Peace through Yoga, Skinny and Company and Zija International.
