Suspect in cop shooting in court
Thomas Hardy, 60, who is accused of fatally shooting police officer David Moore appeared in court this week for a hearing on his death-penalty case.
Hardy was charged with murder after his arrest in the Jan. 23 shooting of Moore during a traffic stop. Moore died a few days later.
Prosecutor Terry Curry has said he would seek the death penalty for Hardy.
Hardy will have two attorneys, Ray Casanova and Monica Foster. Hardy and his attorneys will appear in court again on March 15 to discuss scheduling. They want Hardy moved from the Marion County Jail to a state prison.
Man shot after being robbed
John Jarver, 38, was in serious condition after being shot in the chest during a robbery this week.
Jarver told Indianapolis Metropolitan Police that he was walking north on Massachusetts Avenue near the Indy Food Mart gas station when a vehicle approached him in the darkness and stopped.
Men got out of the vehicle and demanded money. When Jarver said he didn’t have any, he was struck on the head with a gun. One of the men took money from his pocket and then shot him in the chest. They then drove away.
Thieves steal catalytic converters
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officials say thieves are targeting parked cars and stealing catalytic converters in the downtown area.
Some of the thefts have been caught on surveillance video.
The video shows a couple in a 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix, possibly with a handicap license plate on it.
“Usually the woman is driving and the man is in the passenger side. He gets out, crawls under the vehicle with a sawing device and removes the catalytic converter,” said IMPD Detective Lloyd Walker. “It was about 45 seconds from the time he crawled under the car to the time he comes out with the catalytic converter.”
Metro police believe the couple is responsible for at least a dozen recent thefts using the same getaway car. Police say it is an expensive crime that can cost the victims $1,000 to fix.
If you park downtown, police advise you to avoid parking away from other vehicles or in secluded dark areas.
