Just because you forgot to pack a lunch doesn’t mean you have to deviate from your diet. CoreLife Eatery, a restaurant chain that recently opened a location in Indianapolis’ Castleton area, is serving clean and healthy fast food made from scratch each day.
I wandered into CoreLife on a Friday afternoon one week after the restaurant’s grand opening, and the place was bustling with customers. I enjoyed the setup of the restaurant; the fresh fruits and veggies on display made me feel like I was in a neighborhood farmers market. A friendly staff member greeted me and explained how to order their signature bowls.
At CoreLife, healthy eating goes beyond offering one salad on a menu full of fried, fatty foods. Their greens, grains and broth bowls are customizable, allowing visitors to add their choice of fresh ingredients to the mix. All entrees are gluten free, and there are numerous options on their menu for vegetarians, vegans and individuals with food allergies.
I ordered the grilled chicken tortilla broth bowl with a little bit of Sriracha added for flavor and took it to the outdoor dining area to take advantage of the warm fall day. The dish was delicious, hearty with a slight kick to it, and I thought the warm entree would be perfect to eat on a day when I was feeling under the weather.
After my meal, I had the chance to chat with Melissa G. McKeithan-Rohwer, the owner of Indy’s CoreLife Eatery. She shared what the restaurant’s most popular dishes are.
If you want a green bowl, the Mediterranean and steak and blue cheese are popular. As far as grains go, she recommended the southwest grilled chicken and wild rice blend. When it came to broth bowls, my grilled chicken tortilla was her second favorite, but she recommended the spicy ginger steak and rice noodle. In addition to the entrees, CoreLife Eatery offers unique fresh-squeezed teas and lemonades, including cucumber basil lemonade and tropical green tea.
I was satisfied with both my meal and my experience, and I plan to go back to see what the rest of their menu has to offer.
