Community Health Network MD Anderson Cancer Center-East marked a major milestone with the completion of its relocation and expanded space at Community Hospital East, 1500 N. Ritter Avenue.

The health system hosted a ribbon cutting and open house with tours of the center, which more than doubles the size of the department. The expansion is intended to give patients on the city’s east side increased access to cancer care without traveling far from home.

“This expansion ensures that every patient has access to the highest level of cancer care, close to home,” said Marcie Jones, Vice President/Chief Nurse Executive Community MD Anderson Cancer Center.

According to the health network, the center’s square footage has grown from 9,150 to 22,894. Infusion rooms increased from 15 to 20, exam rooms rose from 6 to 14, and the pharmacy expanded from 536 to 1,570 square feet.

With the larger footprint, the center will offer a full range of oncology services that include screening, medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical options and supportive resources. Community MD Anderson said each patient will receive a treatment plan tailored to their needs.

The expansion is part of Community MD Anderson’s broader effort to meet rising demand for cancer care across central Indiana. The organization recently opened a cancer center in Carmel, and construction continues on a project to more than double the size of its southside location.

Patient care will move into the newly expanded space in December.
