The Indianapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. hosts Dayla at the Madam Walker Legacy Center
First through third grade students of the Indianapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. proudly hosted the Crown and Culture Dayla on Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, at the historic Madam Walker Legacy Center. Children from across Indiana ā including those from Congressional Districts 1 and 7, currently threatened under a proposed redistricting billācame together for an inspiring afternoon centered on cultural pride, civic engagement, and youth advocacy.

WRTVās Amber Grigley served as emcee for the event. Special guests State Representative Cherrish Pryor, State Senator J.D. Ford, State Senator Andrea Hunley, and Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC) Chairwoman Adrianne Slash delivered engaging mini-sessions on the CROWN Act, how laws are made and the ICRC complaint process. Students shared powerful testimonies about the importance of their crowns and wrote heartfelt letters to their elected officials.

Attendees also participated in a service project aligned with The Childrenās Museum of Indianapolisā 100th Birthday Cake Kit Initiative, assembling 50 birthday cake kits in just 20 minutes to support families facing food insecurity.

The Dayla concluded with affirmations, music, and a joyful celebration of youth leadership in action.
