In her new role as Central Regional Director, Wilson will also
serve on the sorority’s International Board of Directors.
Nichole C. Wilson has been installed as Central Regional Director for Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®, the nation’s oldest and first Greek-letter organization for college-trained African American women.
Wilson, who resides in Indianapolis, Ind., is a senior health care executive. She was elected to the position during Alpha Kappa Alpha’s 92nd Central Regional Conference that was held this past April in Indianapolis and officially installed during the organization’s 72nd International Boule conference that was recently held in July in Las Vegas, Nev.
She will oversee more than 9,000 graduate and undergraduate members in Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Eastern Missouri (St. Louis and Cape Girardeau), North Dakota and South Dakota. Like Alpha Kappa Alpha, many members of historically African American sororities and fraternities continue their community service work well after graduating from college by joining the alumni chapters of their respective organizations.
Throughout Wilson’s 30 year membership in Alpha Kappa Alpha, leadership has been at the core of her commitment to the organization and its members. “I am really excited to go to work for the region and those that we serve,” said Wilson. “I want to do all in my power to make sure members in our chapters are supporting the issues most critical to our community.”
Some of the issues referenced by Wilson include Alpha Kappa Alpha’s eight international program targets that are focused on the sorority’s national theme of “Championing Service. Embracing Sisterhood. Transforming the World.” They include supporting foster care children and their families, promoting literacy and academic success, supporting and developing initiatives that promote healthy family relationships as well as the overall health of the communities served by the sorority, economic growth, environmental sustainability, the arts and Alpha Kappa Alpha’s undergraduate members.
Additionally, Wilson would like to establish regional programming that aligns with Alpha Kappa Alpha’s international initiatives.
“We have a lot of talented members within our organization that are making change within their local communities,” said Wilson. “I’d love to see them grow and make change on school boards, city councils, higher political offices and through policy change”.
“We are here to be of service. We are here to empower. We are here to uplift our community by moving it forward,” Wilson added. Wilson joined the Pi Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha in 1996 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine. She later earned a master’s degree and a doctorate degree in physical therapy from the University of Indiana and an MBA from Purdue University. Prior to her election as Central Regional Director, Wilson served in numerous leadership roles within the sorority on the regional and international levels. She also sits on numerous boards within the Indianapolis community. In October, Wilson will join the DePauw University Board of Trustees, her alma mater, as its newest member.
She and her husband, Corey Wilson, have one daughter, nine-year-old Nahla.
