Health Care Hire Fair to connect health care workers with hiring managers, interview opportunities

More by this author

WorkOne Indianapolis will connect qualified healthcare workers to local hospital and medical facility hiring managers during the Health Care Hire Fair at Bankers Life Fieldhouse on August 27.

The Hire fair, which differs from a traditional job fair, will provide specific paths for prescreened candidates with healthcare education and experience and assist those interested in obtaining healthcare training.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include access to WorkOne services, networking with healthcare professionals, onsite resources for resume development and interview skills as well as opportunities for on-site interviews.

ā€œThe Health Care Hire Fair is designed to help employers find the job-ready, skilled workers they need in one place, in one day,ā€ said Brooke Huntington, President and CEO of EmployIndy. ā€œWeā€™ve partnered with healthcare providers to identify the skills they are seeking in job candidates, and have worked closely with jobseekers to make sure they have those sought-after skills and can present them to the hiring managers during the Hire Fair and as they acquire new jobs.ā€

Hire fair attendees can plan to connect with over 20 employers from local hospitals, medical offices and long term care/assisted living facilities including IU Health, St. Vincent, Community Health Network, Wishard, and Richard L. Roudebush VAMC. Ivy Tech Community College, University of Indianapolis, IU Health Science Education, Walker Career Center, J. Everett Light Community and Continuing Education, and other education providers will be on-site to provide information on training programs to attendees who are interested in advancing their career in healthcare.

ā€œWe are looking forward to meeting the prescreened candidates at the Health Care Hire Fair. Knowing these candidates have the soft skills we need to accompany the professional certification will help make our hiring process that much easier,ā€ said Teri Dick, HR Consultant-Recruitment and Staffing at Indiana University Health.

While walk-in attendees are welcome, it is highly recommended that anyone planning to attend the Hire Fair visit an Indianapolis WorkOne office to be prescreened. Prescreening activities are taking place at the three Indianapolis WorkOne centers now though August.

ā€œPrescreened jobseekers will have a heightened advantage over walk-in attendees,ā€ said Gina Mityas-Stanley, Health Care Program Manager at EmployIndy. ā€œAn employer who meets a prescreened candidate at the Healthcare Hire Fair knows that the candidateā€™s credentials have been verified, that background check requirements have been met, and that time has been spent with a Healthcare Careers Advisor to address any challenges related to communication skills, customer service skills and other soft skills.ā€

Health Care Career Advisors will meet one-on-one with jobseekers to verify their licensure or credentials, review their resume, perform their background check, examine and discuss customer service, communication and other skills. The advisor will provide guidance on soft skills, dress, professional development opportunities, marketability and professionalism.

Jobseekers planning to attend the Health Care Hire Fair who would like to be prescreened should schedule an appointment by contacting Leeza Fazioli at (317) 228-0682 Ext 120, Efazioli@stvincent.org; or Sally Black at (317) 228-0682 Ext 102, healthcare@employindy.org. All jobseekers should bring a copy of their licensure, credential or unofficial transcript to prove healthcare education. They should also bring their resume, a state-issued ID and social security card.

Healthcare Hire Fair is a part of the Healthcare Careers Initiative, a three year healthcare industry focused program funded by a $4.8 million grant from the Department of Labor. The initiative provides training dollars to participants interested in careers in health care, one of the fastest growing career sectors in Indianapolis. Since the grant began in spring of 2010, more than 500 Indianapolis residents have been placed in training and earned an industry recognized credential.

Jobseekers interested in a career in healthcare or interested in attending the Healthcare Hire Fair should contact their local Indianapolis WorkOne office or visit www.WorkOneIndy.com for more information.
