WTLC-AM1310’s Afternoons with Amos receives top Indiana broadcasting award

Afternoons with Amos, the popular weekday talk show on WTLC-AM1310 in Indianapolis, was named Outstanding Special Interest Program in the 22nd Annual Indiana Broadcasters Association Spectrum Awards.

The Spectrum Awards annually recognizes the best efforts in news, entertainment and community service programs on Indiana’s radio and television stations.

Afternoons with Amos was specifically recognized for a live two hour town hall, broadcast during the heated summer debates over health care reform. The August 27th two hour Town Hall featured Indiana Congressman Andre Carson (D-7th District) answering questions and hearing the views of constituents on this critical issue.

“This Afternoons with Amos special was a textbook example of what local broadcasting is about”, said Chuck Williams, Vice-President and General Manager of WTLC-AM and Radio One/Indianapolis.

“We’re pleased this effort was honored with Indiana’s highest broadcasting award for broadcasting excellence. The reaction and coverage the broadcast received was unprecedented”.

Afternoons with Amos is the six year old weekday talk show airing on WTLC-AM which is the market and state’s only weekday talk show focusing on issues progressive-oriented talk show focusing on issues of importance to Indianapolis’ African-American community. The program is among the highest rated progressive-oriented talk shows in the country and is the highest rated talk show among African-Americans; garnering a nearly 20% share of Black listening in the Indianapolis market.

Host/Managing Editor Amos Brown is a nearly thirty-five year veteran of WTLC and Indianapolis broadcasting and is a member of the Indiana Broadcasters Hall of Fame.
