The Indianapolis Department of Business and Neighborhood Services (DBNS) has unveiled a new interactive road closure viewer, giving residents a convenient way to access real-time information about road projects, detours and special events across the city.
The tool, designed with user accessibility in mind, integrates data from DBNS and the Department of Public Works (DPW). It provides a detailed view of closures tied to city-led projects and private developments affecting rights-of-way. Residents can search for closures by address to see how their daily routes or neighborhoods might be impacted.
“This new tool marks a significant step forward in the City’s commitment to make government service and information easier to access for the citizens we serve,” said Abbey Brands, director of DBNS. “This user-friendly format empowers citizens to stay informed and engaged in the work and events impacting their communities.”
Key features of the road closure viewer include:
- Daily updates: Ensuring the most accurate, up-to-date information.
- Custom notifications: Users can define areas of interest on the map and receive alerts when permits are activated within those boundaries.
- Data customization: Toggle options for specific date ranges and data sets.
- Detailed insights: Project names, descriptions, start and end dates and permit holder information are all available.
The tool displays closures connected to approved permits that are in progress or scheduled. While dates associated with closures may change due to unforeseen circumstances, the viewer ensures users have timely updates about planned disruptions.
DBNS plans to expand the platform in the future, incorporating additional data like zoning, structural and drainage permits, as well as enforcement activities.
