The annual Hoosier Art Salon is celebrating 100 years of championing Indiana art and artists this year.
The 100th annual Hoosier Art Salon, also known as Indiana’s preeminent juried art exhibition highlighting Indiana artists, will feature more than 140 works of art during its run Aug. 24-Oct. 20 at the Indiana State Museum. To celebrate the Hoosier Art Salon centennial, guests are invited to explore the organization’s history and legacy in the Stories of the Salon exhibition, which will be open alongside the Hoosier Art Salon exhibition.
“Just as we have throughout the past, the Indiana State Museum remains committed to working with and supporting Indiana’s artists, and our partnership with the Hoosier Art Salon reflects that commitment,” Paula Katz, senior curator of art for the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites, said in a statement. “These exhibitions show that the Salon encompasses a wide range of art and artists that affiliate themselves as Hoosiers. There is a great variety of work, and there is something for everyone to enjoy.”
The 2024 Hoosier Art Salon will display a variety of art, such as paintings, drawings, sculpture, glass work and more from 122 Hoosier artists from across the state — including 20 first time Hoosier Salon artists.

All works displayed in the exhibition will be available for sale, and winning artists receive monetary awards totaling $100,000, including $10,000 for Best in Show, sponsored by Sarah and John Lechleiter, according to a press release.
The companion exhibition, Stories of the Salon, allows guests to learn more about the stories behind the artists in a vibrant display of Indiana’s evolving art scene. More than 50 works of art from years past and present will be on display, such as Wayman Adams’ “The Art Jury” — which won Best in Show in 1926 — and T.C. Steele’s “The Hill Country.”
Stephanie Spay, who won the 2023 Hoosier Art Salon, will have two of her paintings, “The Breath Between” and “Becoming: Portrait of Stephanie,” featured in this year’s exhibition as well.
“We are thrilled to be partnering again with the ISM to host the Hoosier Art Salon’s 100th exhibition,” Hoosier Art Salon President Michael Quinn said in a statement. “The arts in Indiana are blessed to have a plethora of amazing artists. To all who entered and all who were accepted, you are all part of the Hoosier Art Salon family.”
Since its creation by Daughters of Indiana in 1925, the Hoosier Art Salon is known as one of Indiana’s most esteemed arts organizations. Previously held at Marshall Field & Company department store in Chicago, the exhibition found its new home at the Indiana State Museum in 1990, where it has been since, save for a brief relocation to the Indiana Historical Society from 2005-10.
The 100th annual Hoosier Art Salon and Stories of the Salon exhibitions are on view Aug. 28-Oct. 20 at the Indiana State Museum, 650 W. Washington St. Entry is included in the price of museum admission and free for members. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit indianamuseum.org.
