Leadership Indianapolis will host its popular annual Get on Board event,
presented by AES Indiana, to connect interested individuals with local nonprofits looking
for board, committee and volunteer talent. The event will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m. June 25 at Newfields. Participants can meet directly with more than 100 organizations to find a perfect fit for their skills and talents.
āGet on Board creates meaningful connections between talented individuals and nonprofit organizations in need of what they have to offer,ā said Beth Perdue Outland, vice president of Leadership Indianapolis. āThis event connects and mobilizes community
leaders to serve and strengthen greater Indianapolis.ā
Get on Board Success Stories:
Bruce Garrison is the CEO of Patchwork Indy, a nonprofit that works with the many
cultural communities who now call Indiana home. They create innovative ways to meet the
rapidly changing needs of the resettled communities through advocacy, awareness and
advancement.
āPatchwork Indy gained a great amount of contacts from the event at Newfields last year,ā
Garrison said. āWe are now in the process of talking about a full working partnership with
someone we met there at the Volunteer and Board event.ā
Patrick Jesse is the CEO of Enable, a company that leads the implementation of
management systems and offers customized strategy and governance solutions for
businesses. Patrick has executive leadership experience in the nonprofit and for profit
spaces, as well as a legal background. He earned one of his board appointments after
attending Get on Board when he moved back to the area.
“Moving back home to Indiana from DC, I was eager to find a way to dig in and connect into the community in a meaningful way,ā Jesse said. āGet on Board was an awesome
opportunity to do that, and it sparked a magical connection with an organization that
meant a lot to me personally ā the Boys & Girls Clubs of Indianapolis. I was invited to join
the board a few months after the Get on Board event, and I’m now concluding my third year as board president!”
Get on Board is free but registration is required. Newfields is offering all registered
attendees free admission throughout the day and guests are invited to enjoy the museum
prior to the event.
In addition, Leadership Indianapolis is hosting three virtual workshops in the weeks leading up to Get on Board. The interactive sessions will feature local civic leaders and are designed to prepare participants for serving on boards. The workshops are $10 each.
- Know Your Why ā noon to 1 p.m. on June 4
- Board Basics ā noon to 1 p.m. on June 11
- Real Talk: What Itās Like Serving on a Nonprofit Board ā noon to 1 p.m. on June 18
āThese workshops are designed to provide knowledge, skills, and confidence to individuals
who may be new to serving on a board,ā Outland said. āWorkshop attendees will learn how
to identify what kind of nonprofit they want to serve, and why. They will also prepare for
the different responsibilities of board members and what questions to ask when
considering joining.ā
