Philanthropist launches new book on 200 pound weight loss journey

DETROIT – Collin Mays, philanthropist,  entrepreneur and now author, has launched his new book, Losing It For Good: The Ultimate Guide for Men’s Health and Wellness. The book chronicles how Mays overcame struggles with food addiction as a youth and young adult and how he started his healthy lifestyle journey in 2019. The guide offers information and identifies sources where men can learn more about achieving and maintaining optimal health regimens in a fast-paced world.

“It’s no secret that Black men are at greater risk for health issues compared to our counters,” said Collin Mays, author, philanthropist and entrepreneur. “I hope that this book will make a significant difference in the lives of men but more importantly Black men, to inspire them to become mentally strong, physically in shape, and maintain a consistent healthy regimen. We deserve to live a long rich life, just like our counterparts.”  

The book tells Mays’ story of how he weighed 419 pounds before losing 200+ pounds over 3 and half years. Mays details how he saved his personal and professional life by adopting a healthier lifestyle, which boosted his self-confidence and self-esteem. In addition to sharing advice for losing weight, the book also covers:  

  • Insight on eating smart and exercising daily  
  • The importance of tending to your mental and physical health 
  • The importance of gaining discipline, motivation and perseverance to take control of your personal life 

“I decided to put myself first because my health and future matter,’ said Mays, “The changes I made to my life were some of the best decisions I could have ever implemented. I’m not the only person who has struggled with taking the leap to live a healthier lifestyle. I wrote this book for them in hopes that we can bond over this shared experience and continue to improve our health over time.”
