SHE. Gets It

More by this author

Indy’s own Katina Washington, owner of She Events Indy and the SHEXperience Shoppes, with deep love and an idea that would transcend her community, bootstrapped her way to creating opportunities for otherwise overlooked and underfunded businesses. Through strategic partnerships, Katina continues to infuse the Indianapolis Black community with valuable resources. Through SHE.Events, Indiana small business owners have a marketplace to sell goods and promote their services at an elevated level.

Washington grew the ‘SHE.Event’ into an organization that provides opportunities for over 250 black entrepreneurs. Vendors of all ages and genders showcase handcrafted & homemade products and offer various services. SHE., meaning “she has everything,” started from a deep desire and passion for keeping black dollars in the community while showcasing Black American businesses. In an earlier interview, Katina recalls her first event saying, “…when I started, I had three vendors and 75 attendees”. Leveraging talent in her immediate circle, her first three vendors consisted of herself, a family member who sold shoes, and a friend who ran a catering business. Katina has always forged forward through meaningful partnerships that uplift people and spread wealth.

Washington knows all too well that Black entrepreneurs do not have the same access to financial tools as others. She created the SHEBank lending space on The Halo App to help people access loans to support their businesses. Earlier this summer, in a test run, She.Event used the lending space to provide its vendors with over $20,000 in small loans. “It kept my business running,” Trachell, owner of In my Sistas Ear LLC explains in an interview after receiving her second loan through the SHEBank lending space.

Although thrilled with the success of this venture, Washington recognizes there are still more Black entrepreneurs in need. She wants to increase the number of dollars flowing to the SHEBank group on The Halo App. If you are interested in earning money by investing in Black entrepreneurs using small loans up to $1000, join The Halo App and become a Backer starting today! If you would like to pioneer like Katina Washington and start your own lending space, contact kelly.j@thehaloapp.com.
