Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corp. (MFCDC) is changing the game in many areas in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood. Through housing improvements and development, creating recreational spaces and community building initiatives, MFCDC is doing its part to improve the quality of life for its residents.

This year, MFCDC’s annual meeting boasts a new format. The program will take place on April 29 in Caleb Mills Hall at Shortridge Law and Public Policy Magnet School in the Mapleton-Fall Creek neighborhood. Admission is free to all guests and the program will run from 4 to 6 p.m.

Jackie Nytes, executive director of MFCDC says, “People’s attitudes have changed in recent years and there is a renewed interest in our urban neighborhoods. We have quality housing opportunities here in Mapleton-Fall Creek and now we need to let everyone know the many other wonderful things happening in our community.”

MFCDC will honor residents and community partners as part of its annual awards program. Tamika Catchings, of the Indiana Fever, will be this year’s keynote speaker. Being a community leader with a strong focus on childhood development, Catchings was an ideal fit for MFCDC’s “Changing the Game” event.

Following the program, there will be a “Taste of Mapleton-Fall Creek” for guests to enjoy. Six local restaurants will be on hand serving up samples.

Mapleton-Fall Creek Development Corp. is a non-profit community development corporation serving the Mapleton-Fall Creek Neighborhood. The organization was established to serve as the community’s tool to rebuild and revitalize the area after years of disinvestment. MFCDC’s programs focus on a type of strategic planning that examines all the things that gives a place its identity, makes it an attractive place to live, and provides a good quality of life for its residents.

In 2011, MFCDC is developing three neighborhood parks, renovating 50 rental properties and completing 20 home owner repair and 45 weatherization projects. MFCDC is also participating in a quality of life plan for the area, implementing economic development initiatives, preparing 23 homes for homeownership and exploring the prospect of a new neighborhood school and additional senior housing.
